This was my very first race, it was at Phillip Island in January 1960, the car is a 1958 Ford Mark 2, Zephyr. It was the family sedan, the farm tow vehicle, and a race car on weekends. It was fitted with triple SU's, cast iron headers, with extractor exhaust system, heavy front roll bar, and reground camshaft. The rest of car was basically standard as you can tell by the body roll, and raced on Goodyear cross-ply tyres.
This was the first car race meeting I had ever witnessed or attended, and was a very daunting experience, and new nothing about racing, just drove like I did on the roads, like there was no tomorrow, and got a third place on my first event.
With the money I won, I bought myself a Tag Heuer stopwatch
The Techniques of Racing
Driving quickly and safely is an art, and an art well worth the learning.
A motor car is an instrument, an instrument to be treated with finesse, and a smooth fine touch, with kindness, and attention, not something to be manhandled into submission. I believe every loved car develops a spirit, you can chose to be at one with that spirit, and work as a team, or you can be indifferent, never knowing what it is capable of, and it, never knowing what you want from it.
I would like the opportunity to teach you that fine art of high speed safe driving, to be at one with your car, and drive it to success, or to win.
Driver race training is available on a one-to-one basis, where you get the maximum input at a very personal level, nothing is missed out on. This individual training would be a minium of a four hour session. It would cover the mental attitude, the theory, reading the road, your relationship with your car, your cars personality, and how to adapt to it.
